100 Q&A about CUN 059 | All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives (ACFSMC）
Cooperatives have approached a hundred years of history in China. As early as the Democratic Revolution, Mao Tse Tung、Liu Shaoqi and other state leaders have repeatedly discussed on the issue of cooperatives. After the New China was founded, the Party and the government have always taken the development of cooperatives as an important way of promoting rural economic and solving the problems of farmers, and have provided specific guidance, supports and promotions.
In November 1949, the Central Cooperative Administration was established to supervise the national cooperative business. In July 1954, a unified national system of supply and marketing cooperatives was established. But since 1958, the development of supply and marketing cooperatives went through a tortuous period, on-again-off-again with state commerce.
In 2013, the №1 Central Document clearly proposed to support supply&marketing cooperatives on the circulation of agricultural products, to give full play to the importance of the cooperatives in agricultural socialization services. In 2014, General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang listened to reports on the work of supply & marketing cooperatives and made important speeches, giving important instructions on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of ACFSMC, which provided fundamental guidelines for the reform and development of supply and marketing cooperatives in the new period.
By the end of 2020, all sub-organizations of ACFSMC achieved total sales of RMB5.3 trillion, with 2,789 supply & marketing cooperatives at county level and above, and 192,460 various professional cooperatives organized by farmers.
In 1985, ACFSMC joined the International Cooperative Alliance on behalf of China’s cooperatives, and serving as the vice chairman of ICA on behalf of the Asia-Pacific region since 1997, contributing significantly to the development of the international cooperative movement.
